The list of Pokemon and sets magnezone functions well against is almost exclusively sets that run no speed. Outrunning pelipper, bulkier bulu, spdef tran, defensive landorus and others is not a waste, certainly less than trying to invest in hp in a meta where every offensive pokemon in the tier either blows it up or u turns. If the mere risk of running into a fast zone forces every corviknight to run a less sturdy ev spread, then it's already winning.
