Limited dex means a more unique and distinctive meta.

National dex means the competitive is a snowball of the same stagnant shit. Perpetuated with the presence of the same powercreep mythical trash with good stats and typing.
Every region should have a limited regional dex only.

No, fuck you. The fact that an arbitrary portion of my Pokémon collection can't get ribbons from certain games is a fucking atrocity. My Feraligatr for example should not miss out on the Galar champion and Battle Tower ribbons just because Game Freak is either lazy or wants to bend over for compniggers even more than they already do. Competitive players seem to actually hate the smaller dex; it was very quickly learned what the best picks were.

I had originally assumed the limited dex was “hey, we want the whole lifespan of these specific games to be a more curated experience,” but regardless of original intentions it’s definitely now “Pokémon=content, we were just gating it”

This. I like the small dex as much as the next person but they could still limit what Pokemon you can use. Hell, they're doing it now with the Galar Newcomers competition which is leading to some interesting and unique teams. I hope that's something they keep doing in the future.

Wouldn't competitive people actually love a centralized predictable metagame because that makes it easier to understand and exploit? Like, let's look at Singles Ubers from XY when the whole game revolved around setting up Xerneas because if you get it going when your opponent doesn't have a counter you win. That was really easy to get to know because the only strategies you really needed to learn were around checking/countering Xerneas and getting Xerneas set up after eliminating its counters. And pretty much everyone's team revolved around that, so you knew exactly what your opponent was doing. I would think competitive types would love that because it means you have more of a grip on the situation and since only really Xerneas-centered strategies work you don't get crushed by some dork who got lucky with a rough strategy nobody prepared for (because Xerneas is so powerful rogue strategies usually don't work well). Like, when I played competitive, I loved centralized metagames, you got down to business faster, knew what to prepare for, and often what your opponent was going to do before they did it, so everyone has the most control over the situation, so it's less about analyzing the meta and building a team and more about actual battling. It's great, less bullshitting around trying to figure out why the other guy made this weird choice or is doing this weird thing.

But I don't speak for everyone who play competitively. Some people love teambuilding and trying to be anti-meta and having "heat" where they humiliate their opponents with offbeat strategies. I hate teambuilding, but I love battling, so centralized metas with only a few viable options are cool in my book.

If you're talking about Smogon, play UU or RU or whatever seismitoad would be in without every 'mon, then. OU isn't what's the most powerful or relevant because they decided Ubers should be a functional metagame too. The only relevant mons are Ubers.
