The Kanto ones aren't restricted by a theme only by design. Blastoise can be a mobile fortress or gaint cannon it don't has to do something with the cannons. Intellon is more restricted due to he has to live up the sniper/spy motiff they force so hard.

The Kanto Gigantamax forms are about the actually kaiju aspect of the gimmick and expand on this in a way of enhancing the already design in a more monstrous way. So they actually look like kaiju whereas the Galar starters simply get stronger themes. More plantation growth, more fighting spirit soccer-esque fire and more of a full blown sniper. Basically Kanto Pokémon are the monsters where as the Galar ones are simply their themes and play off humanoid ideology (drumming, soccer, shooting)

I literally boxxed sobble when it evolved into its second stage, dunno the name, didn't even bother getting it to Intelleon. Not even Gigantamax forms are enough to bring me back to it.

I actually like this gen's mon design, theres tons of awesome ones, but the starters are dogshit

Because Kanto just takes priority over whatever the current gen is. Then you also have to take into consideration SwSh is rushed as fuck so they were probably at loss for ideas and just said “fuck it” do this bare minimum shit so we can just advertise the rest of the game we left out.

Why not going for the already explored themes and build up over them? Giga-Venusaur and Giga-Blastoise could pass as a further progression after megaevolving (which is nice since the megas won't return any time soon) but Giga-Charizard is just "did you like any of the other forms? welp they are replaced by something totally different now"

It’s always been weird to me how they pander to Kanto so much except when it comes to new pokemon. Sure they’ll make all the regional variants and megas and g-maxes and z-moves of kanto mons, but when it comes to designing pokemon for the new generation they dont use gen 1 design philosophy that would be just as “nostalgic” as anything else they’re doing.

My only guess is because it isn’t as marketable and gen 1 only is because it’s the original, of course. Like if they could change kanto pokemon to be more like modern ones they would.
