Crystal, Emerald and Platinum all share in common that they are just taking the plots from their predecessors and expanding it without actually changing the progression, Team Rocket is still trying to find Giovanni, Team Magma & Aqua are still trying to summon their respective legendaries, Cyrus is still trying to create a new world by using the Red Chain.
B2W2 are sequels, yeah they're the same generation and region however they're telling a completely different plot that's even reliant on the existence of the first games to explain things.
USUM meanwhile changes SM's plot, it behaves similarly to Crystal, Emerald and Platinum but is instead changing the main plot to focus around Necrozma and basically flipping Lusamine's role in the plot from being downright evil to well-intentioned but misguided.
