Gen 6 and 7 take place in a separate universe where megas exist and I can assume 8 is in one with dynamax and gigantamaxing. The devs saids so themselves last I recalled trivia around gen 6.

This. Gen 1-5 actually followed a somewhat loose but still logical timeline. This all was thrown out of the window by gen 6, and in particular ORAS (the Delta episode even specifically made it very clear).

Dynamax does not require a separate universe because it is a Galar-only phenomenon unlike the mega stones which were created all over the newly-split universe when the ultimate weapon fired.
