If people """hated""" Gen 5 so much, how come it received a direct sequel (BW -> BW2) instead of a cashgrab updated version (SM -> USUM, DP -> Pl etc.)? The only other Gen that received that is Gen 1 in form of Gen 2.

Had to make it a double version so gen 5 wouldn't go to waste. It's a gen with no remake, relatively low sales for it's first entries, so a sequel with 2 different games would be profitable. And it worked because BW2 are the highest selling third versions likely due to it being 2 games instead of one like the third versions.
