Not sure of the American prices but here in the UK a copy of Sword or Shield could run you anywhere between £45 and £50. Add the expansion pass and that's £75 to £80
GBA games would have run you £25 brand new from an Argos or whatever meaning you could buy both Ruby/Sapphire AND Emerald for £50. DS games were £30 so Diamond/Pearl AND Platinum would have been £60, same for BW2. 3DS games would be £35 (physical because eshop prices are exorbitant) so even Sun/Moon and ULTRA CHANGES would have been £70.
Being on the Switch INHERENTLY means that DLC/expansions of any kind are comparatively not good value for money. Doesn't help that there are expansions for other games that give you way more bang for your buck than SwSh's paid postgame.
