So all the people who said less Pokemon is a good thing and that the games have more than enough content are skipping the dlc right?
I mean Battle Frontier and legendary hunting sucked apparently so you aren't paying $30 for it obviously

bonus points for a certain someone that runs a draft league who is basically doing a mini version now and admits the full on draft league won't be until Isle of Armor releases.

If nothing else it's a real dick move to tell people they're buying a whole game for $60 and then later tell them they can buy the rest of the game for another $30. Who's to say there's not another season pass in 2021?

Really feels like an Ubisoft kind of deal. I remember playing the Prince of Persia reboot and getting a message at the end saying that I had to buy the DLC to see the true ending. Sad to see that people have gotten so used to this kind of treatment that they just accept it as normal.

Neither system is entirely respectable but the DLC route is strictly worse. An updated version means you can buy the full game for the price of a single game. If you buy both the base version and the updated version, or if you don't sell your base version to buy the updated version, that's a personal choice you make.

DLC means that you will always have to pay the price of the full game PLUS the price of the DLC. Basically the price of a full game has more than doubled from $40 to $90 since gen VII.

Also, don't forget that it reduces the value of the games you buy. If you want to resell your copy of Pokémon Shield to someone else in, say, 2030, you better hope the Switch Online service is still available or whoever you're selling it to will not be able to get access to the full game.

This time the base game is unfinished so it's pay $90 for a full game instead of pay $80 for a full game then also a definitive version

It depends on the person in question. a person who usually got a regular version, and then a third version, will find the DLC route better, someone who'd wait for the third version, or sell the original version when getting the third version will find the DLC route worse.
This is all, of course, talking strictly about pricing, and not the content as we don't actually know enough yet to make judgement and any judgments made are driven by optimism or pessimism.

Pokémon games do not, or only barely go down in price. You can sell your copy of Pokémon Sun for almost as much as you bought it for. It's not FIFA, Pokémon games don't devalue to pocket change in a year.

I was let down by SWSH but the DLC looks good, maybe we'll get a good gen 8 game out of it after all. Don't like the overall cost but already spent the 60.

Also I have a huge legendary bird bias, so I'm happy the mons I was seething about losing are back and with regional forms.

Or by buying a home subscription and transfering them, but not all of them so better keep paying so they don't get wiped
GF has figured out you make less money with a good game then with a bad game that charges for fixes
As long as people go out of their way to defend it this is the series now
