>>42369753Because Ice was Dragon's check, fighting already had 2 powerhouse weaknesses and dark got nerfed. Poison was a crippler type (Like ghost where it inflicts statuses versus straight up being hyper offensive) and Steel already had offensively viable mons and defense was the whole point of the type, to counter gen 1's OP normal types.
Fairy made the original checks so damn bad that PU basically consists of what used to be RU and the lower half of UU. Plus almost half the dex for the more recent games seemed to have nothing but fairy as the typing. For the amount of new fairies they have they sure didn't try using all the types as cohesively as dark and steel back in gen 3. Plus it's their excuse to make almost solely hyper cute marketable mons versus the balance of previous gens with both actual huge beasts and cuddly cute puffballs. Basically Fairy to half the meta and snapped it like gen 1 psychic.
