I feel that you shouldn't really include the more generic trainers like "Rich Boy Antoin" and "Aroma Lady Carnation." There are probably dozens of generic specialists like them, including the Gym Challengers you fight in the SwSh Champion Cup rematches.

To be fair, Gen 1 didn't really have much dragons. Would seem stupid to have a team of 4 Dragonairs + 1 Dragonite or something similar. At least they're all aesthetically dragon-like, and he does become a true Dragon specialist in later games.

Those are specialists ORAS added for the postgame in order to have a specialist for every single type in the game, they aren't randoms, they have full teams as strong as the gym leaders, just filling the gaps
Also the gym challengers are literally Elite Four tier for the player's perspective and there's one of every type, why would you not include them? They are more respect worthy than let's say Brock, Falker or Viola

No trainer is truly random. They all have pre-determined names, locations, and teams. If the only criteria is being stronger than the 1st gym leader, then there are literally dozens are generic "specialists."

At the very least, it should just be limited to characters significant enough to have their own unique models.

you're being inconsistent then. if we're judging purely by mechanics, a type specialist should use a mono-type team, but there are plenty of official gym leaders that use pokemon from a completely different type. for example, Lance's and Raihan's initial teams are notably non-dragon teams.

Remember how SM/USUM had different trainers acting as Champions in the post-game because (You) were the Champion and the last battle always was against someone else? It's the same in this game, there's an anime-like tournament replacing the Elite 4 system were you fight the gym leaders (including the former Champion Leon and your 3 rivals, not only the 2 that become Gym leaders) but there are also "gym challengers" that fit that role, some of them use the same types as a preexisting gym leader but others have different types so you can still fight someone that acts as a Normal type gym leader/elite four, or a Steel type one, etc

What's the point of a type specialist categorization if all it takes to be a specialist is to have at least 2 Pokemon of a specific type? There are plenty of characters on that list that are not involved in any sort of league rematch system, but are judged purely by the types of their Pokemon.

Nobody cares. Since the first game, you don't have to run a mono-type team to be considered "specialist" on that type. If you consider no mono type = no specialist, you are plain wrong.

if mono-type teams have nothing to do with being a specialist, and the only criteria is being placed alongside other specialists in a tournament setting, then trainers like Zinzolin, Faba and Rose arent specialists.

What do you mean? LGPE is "consistent" with Agatha using both poison types and ghost types.

No you retards, a Gym Challenger is someone who competes in the Gym Challenge, which is just the new name for the badge quest. In lore, only a select few challengers actually make it to the Champion Cup and the ones that remain compete in an anime like tournament to decide who goes on to the next round which is a Gym Leader tournament.

The Gym Challengers in the postgame Champion Cup are just the ones that managed to make it to the end including an old man who’s been doing this shit for decades

I'm pretty sure they are done with normal branch evos, the only new evos we are getting now are regional forms and the official site/trailers already spoiled Crobat will appear in the second expansion so no regional Zubat, no regional Golbat and no evolution for that Golbat that is ghost type

What? Flying is the coolest type, what are you talking about? Boringest type is either Fairy because there aren't enough Fairy moves so they all use the name moves, or Rock because other than Fossils they feel kind of same-y and almost all of them are physical, slow, and sort of bad. I wish there were more rock types like Omastar or Minior and less of them like Onix or Rampardos.

Grimmsnarl, Mimikyu, the Tapus, Xerneas, Zacian, and Mawile keep them interesting for me. Most of those are legendary, but they're better than Rock. I really love the legendary fairies, I wish the non-legend ones were as cool as them.
