Sprites will always look 100x more aesthetically pleasing than cheap, lifeless looking reused models.

Those models could be well animated but they don't have the will, time or resources to do it.
Sprites can emulate more emotion despite the fact it's pixels because it has to be well made to be appealing like in BW/BW2 for instance.

But those weren't even remotely appealing. Their movements were completely awkward and looked more like animatronics than actual animals. Even the models in XY+ are animated better because sprite animation that isn't frame by frame looks like trash
