Not really when you consider dungeons in this game are generated via a tile system that pull up textures. The pokemon themselves have never taken up much room in a pokemon game.

You could have a really big, thick balloon rubber that weighed 1 kg when filled with helium (not that the helium would add significant weight) that stretched as big as a house. Yes, there is a lower limit to how small something of a certain weight can be. Like you're never going to have something the size of a Planck unit be 1 mg in weight, and you're never going to have certain elements and particles be below a certain weight.

It all comes down to the final composition.

The game is mostly tilesets and the whole demo's been datamined already. Considering this isn't Gamefreak (who can't optimize for shit, seriously, I don't know how it's physically possible to make your game drop frames because a pokemon does a head turning animation) and considering a lot of missing data sets were discovered in the datamine (shiny data incomplete across species) this leaves a positive outlook about how much more content will be in the game in the final release which wasn't datamined.
The amount of additional content is already looking pretty good after sifting through the encyclopedia, so anything on top of what we got will be very nice.

Just want to say, that despite the troll OP, if anything this game is going to piss off fans by changing too much. The game adds moves from later generations, mega evolution, wands which people feel fundamentally changes how the games play to be more item based, friend areas are now listed as some kind of leveling camps which gives me bad Gates to Infinity flashbacks, etc. Feels like only the old dungeons by name, main town, and story itself are really being faithfully remade, whereas the rest of the game is more of an updated reimagining, kind of like a reboot, except without the implication that everything before it isn't canon anymore.

I still don't understand how SwSh is so big file size wise. BotW is like 13.4 gigs and I think over 15x the size in landmass (idk I'm too lazy to actually calculate the difference) Fucking Dragon Quest XI S is also around 13.5 gigs and that game's major cutscenes are fully voice acted in both English and Japanese along with being fuck huge. The PS4 version was about 30 gigs so they did compress shit.

Gamefreak really needs to get their shit together or hire some more tech engineers.

Un-optimized, wasted resources, and hundreds of duplicated un-optimized models. That explains the file size but what I don't understand is what's making the game drop frames over the most innocuous actions. Pretty sure the Switch can handle Link swinging his sword in Hyrule Field without dropping frames.

The Switch can handle fucking Witcher 3, it baffles my mind how can people call such a flawed game who looks like a 3DS with lots of issues a great game. It really shows the power of the pokémon brand.

The switch has some problems with particles in certain games (see the Forbidden Woods in BotW) but in SwSh it really feels like the engine has a hard time with AI movement. I've noticed in towns the people are either stationary or move in a set path so there are little frame drops. But out in the wild area where you have a lot of pokemon and very low spawn distance thus a lot of random movement AI happening all at once the game lags to hell and back. I think the same goes for the head tracking they used. I've seen plenty of other Switch games do head tracking and have no issues. But I feel like SwSh doesn't prioritize property so it ends of loading too much, or maybe it's not caching things, which causes random lag.

The game is close to the size of other first-party titles like Splatoon 2, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, and ARMS. Switch games made for switch that aren't shitty ports are generally efficient with data.

After looking at the event tiles, I think the route they'll go is rewriting the post-game to make it have an actual story instead of a line or two from an NPC to unlock a dungeon, sorta like how Explorer's post-game was an actual story.
