During gen 4 GTS was enabled FOR FREE, ACTUALLY FREE. All you needed was wifi that you could connect to the ds/3ds
and you also are forgetting how in gen 3 firered and leafgreen came with their own wireless trade addons that was compatible with emerald, you still needed another person with the wireless thing, but it was included with the base game for pete sake...

Also in Gen 4 and 5, transferring from previous gens was free and required no link cable, no Bank cost, and no Home cost. You can try to say you needed a GBA and another game, but that's no different in this case, where you need a 3DS and the previous games with the Pokemon you want, PLUS the costs of Bank and Home.

I specifically said catch. You're basically using the same argument that justified gen 3's Dex cut, they're in the code but not obtainable unless you cheat or someone else has it. The point I'm making is, regardless of being able to obtain it without dlc, GF still made a dlc with the intention of selling back cut pokemon

So the fact you are getting hung up on is that you are buying two of the same console, as opposed to different consoles? So if BW happened to be released on a different console, as in the case of the gap between Gen 3 and Gen 4, you'd be okay with it?

Okay, in that case I return to my previous example. Between Gen 3 and Gen 4 you can transfer all your mons for free, and you hardly even need to, since you can catch almost all of the mons that existed up to that point in the Gen 4 games themselves, and there's a GTS which no longer exists in SwSh, that you can use to easily obtain the few mons you can't catch and version exclusives etc. Something that is now paywalled behind $20.

Also realistically, back then when people still had friends, you could just trade with your friends, use a friend's console, etc etc. But now if you try to do that, your friend still needs to pay an extra $30. SOMEONE is paying more, no matter what. The bottom line is that they are adding unnecessary additional costs to their ALREADY predatory system.

You don't get it, to transfer from Gen 4 to Gen 5 you need an extra console that you wouldn't be playing the games on. To play both Gen 7 and 8 you need a 3DS and Switch, so you don't need to buy any extra consoles.

And even then you still have to play the fucking minigame that takes forever

Honestly if Pokemon went to 1 game with randomized available Pokemon to encounter in-game per each save file I'd be alright with that. Maybe have a marking/symbol on your save file that would identify which set you had so you knew who to trade with. Animal Crossing sort of already does this with its furniture by making some pieces more common and others more rare that's all dependent on what you roll when you make your save file

Gender wherwhere calculated into a gen 2 games from the stats of a pokemon from gen 1 games but only when traded intointo the gen 2 games. It was arbitrary and not a thing they implemented before.
