friendship.It has nothing to do with stones, time of day, or gender, in fact there are visually distinct male and female forms for each. The devil is faster and more offensive and the angel is more defensive and supportive but both are strong in-game and also competitively viable. The pre-evo alone is a moderately rare encounter after the first two or three gyms. Despite their appearances, pokedex entries suggest that the angel is actually more sadistic in combat than the devil, which is instead kinder-hearted.
