GAME FREAK hates Raichu. They hate it with a passion. Pikachu is their little money slut and they love it. Pikachu is their guy. They want to be covered in Pikachu's green and gold wealth jizz.

Pikachu is not as powerful as Raichu in the games. Yet Raichu is not the cute mascot with the branding power. This puts Raichu at odds with the very capitalistic nature of the Pokémon brand. Even a cutified form in Alolan Raichu could not make it more popular than Pikachu.

Perhaps they wish they'd done any number of alternatives. Perhaps rather than evolving from Pikachu, Raichu would be some kind of aggressive or darker variant. But the point remains. GAME FREAK hates Raichu. They are too stubborn to undo Raichu or change any of the mechanics relating to it. But. They hate it.

They absolutely hate that fucker.

to answer ops question, their only purpose is to be a cute artefact to help advertise their new regions. they're usually absolute shit, like pachurisu for example, that are have zero bulk and not enough attacking power to make up for it. volt switch + acrobat emolga isnt too bad for B/W story mode though

I'm fully convinced Emolga was intended to be a evolved version of Pachirisu, same with Alomomola, but they decided early enough to make Gen 5 completely unrelated, cucking them both.

They don’t hate it, but they are inconvenienced by it. Raichu is an evolved Pikachu, and therefore must be more powerful. But Raichu is not Pikachu, which is why they do things like make Light Ball only work for Pika, give Pika two exclusive Z-Moves, give Pika unevolvable Partner Pikachu, Gigantamax Pikachu, Cosplay Pikachu and Cap Pikachu forms, etc.

Idk, wasn't Raichu an useful support Pokémon in the competitive scheme? I think I've seen him doing some shit with Fake Out, Nuzzle, Lightning Rod and shit like that.

The whole evolutionary line is prominent. And it's not GF being stubborn. People would rage if Pikachu's evolution suddenly got deleted from existence.

Dunno why they cant just market thr whole fucking line. Clearly raichu gets enough love so I dunno why they cant show pikachu love along with its evolved form. It's like the reverse of charizard where it gets its dick sucked to death, but you'll never hear jack shit on a new charmeleon or charmander form or ability.
