I want to know what would you consider the flaws and poor design choices for every gen including your favorites and how would you use this info to improve the newer games. (Also don't use gen 8 as an example we ALL know why that games sucks and we aren't gonna rag on it here)

Gen 1: Failings come from the programming aspect mostly. Otherwise, I guess most of the locations look very similar (though I think it add to its charm of feeling like real world Japan that happens to have fictional monsters)

Gen 2: Has a horrible level curve, and Johto is probably the least developed region due to using Kanto as a crutch

Gen 3: Too much water is a completely valid complaint and no one can tell me otherwise

Gen 4: Way too many HMs, by far the worst gen in this department

Gen 5: Best Gen, but also started the trend of the games being extremely linear (also has the worst set of mons)

Gen 6: Way too easy with it being the easiest Pokémon game in the series. It also doesn't have much of an identity of its own by giving you a bunch of oldmons for free and having a bloated Pokédex

Gen 7: The game just can't let the player play for more than 5 minutes before being stopped by a meaningless cutscene and has easily the worst early game of the series. I still don't understand this approach as kids hate shit like this; they just want to play the game

Gen 1: Don't have too much to say. It's the first game. There's a lot of glitches and dumb design choices like rhyhorn only having normal type moves by level up but none of this is gamebreaking.

Gen 2: A lot of boring fights with bad levels. GSC and HGSS would be 10/10 games if the fights didn't suck besides like, Red. Worst HM ever Whirlpool

Gen 3: I don't like the sprites very much. Or the rival. Water routes are just meh. Second worst HM Dive.

Gen 4: The slowest. Pokemon distribution was bad in DP. Third worst HM Rock Climb.

Gen 5: Beginning of BW is awful because of the available pokemon, BW gets good at Pinwheel. Not a fan of the region's shape. Musicals suck. I don't have a lot to say about BW2, just linearity doesn't help Unova.

Gen 6: I like it the least. The region is meh, I don't like Kalos pokemon, megas made an already easy campaign even easier which just hurt the game, most forgettable gym, E4, champion, and villain team.

Gen 7: Cutscenes and the flag system are my flaws. The lag sucks too.

Gen 3: Cut, Fly(not required), Surf, Strength, Waterfall, Rock Smash, Dive, Flash(not required)
Total: 8, 6 required
Gen 4: Cut, Fly(not required), Surf, Strength, Waterfall, Rock Smash, Defog(not required), Rock Climb
Total: 8, 6 required
Other considerations:
Flash is present in Gen 4, but is a tm and is never used in a required area
All the required HMs in gen 4 can be taught to Bibarel, but you need to catch a second HM user in Hoenn for Waterfall and Dive
Both move deleters are available after 5 badges. While Sinnoh’s is in the same city as the 6th gym leader, Hoenn’s is one city over in Lilycove.

If you ask me this problem plagues all the games till the 3DS games (Specifically gen 7)

Good point on the roster but I get why they did it. I find the complaint about it being linear applicable to gen 3 first since it was the first game to make the legendary stop your adventure, evil team became center stage and it holds your hand alot. If you ask me BW2 has one of the worst stories in the series, Hugh is a fucking nuisance and the best part if you ask me was from Reversal Mountain to before Lacunosa Town because it feels so much more free-going like in the early gens without story to halt you every route's end.

I think a story could work in pokemon but unlike the Mystery Dungeon series which in the 1st 2 games made you a main character that actually interacted with the world and helps develop the partner throughout the adventure, it actually knew how to balance things better. (Even though I gush about the spinoff I am full well aware of the issues it has at times)

Like Sun thinks mix tutorial with dialogue is a good idea which it isn't. Want to know what did a good job with tutorials? Fire Red/ Leaf Green, they tell you early on the help button exists which ACTUALLY HELPS YOU.
BW2 brought this back as an option when you boot up a PC, but you see no one ever tells you that and no one ever uses it because of it. Resulting in Bianca slowing the pace down just because GF wasn't willing enough to make Bianca just mention or even tell you straight up that it exists.
