As a fan:
1. The story was just OK, better in hindsight but over too quickly based on how I binged the game
2. DLC coming explains some of the emptiness but the routes are too minimal outside the Wild Area and cities are terrible to revisit or explore. Literally the worst thing about the game is Wyndon.
3. Not a big enough new dex

As someone who liked the way my only serious complaint is the lack of exploration in routes and cities. Hammerlocke has a cathedral and a huge fucking stadium and we never got to explore them. I also wish the region had more lore like Sinnoh did.

I like the concept of Trainers being sports stars, it's a nice theme to play up, although I'm not a huge fan of the logo-riddled outfits, they feel too busy for me, and I think the chanting in the gym theme could have been done a lot better.

I like a fair chunk of the new Pokemon designs, even if I'm not a fan of a decent chunk of them.

While I'm not a fan of the fact that it feels like the DLC was made of content cut from the main release, I appreciate that in a perfect world where the game wasn't rushed to release that this would indeed be a better alternative to a third version (especially if content in the DLC wasn't version-exclusive, letting you enjoy all the content from the DLC's no matter what version you bought. But hey, baby steps) And while I'd like the full dex to be available, the update is a step in the right direction.

Still not buying it, still not a fan of most things, but it's not completely irredeemable trash (it's only that bad if literally all you play is Pokemon)

Overall I really liked it.

But I still like the game. Had a lot of fun, the wild area and raids are the co-op content we needed and it’s a big step in the right direction. Enjoyed it more than the last couple gens, I think, but I’ll have to replay it to be a better judge (I liked SM at first a lot and then hated it upon replay, and replay value is a big deal for me).

I wish the towns and routes were a bit more expansive. There were so many interesting areas and they just felt underdeveloped.
