>>42392907I've been working as a primary school teacher for some years now and talk a lot with both kids and parents. Many parents think their kids are too young to play console games, yes, even Nintendo ones, and some reluctantly gave their kids tablets but others even refuse to do that and try to raise them with tabletop games only. Some kids whine that they want to try Fortnite like "the other kids do" but their parents won't let them either, so the most they do is play in said tablets or PC games from those websites I mentioned. They do buy a shit ton of cards (only for the pictures, they don't actually use them to play) which they show and trade to each other, plus plushies, though, and during breaks ask me if I play PoGo (I don't but still have it downloaded to entertain them for a bit). So I mean, they do know about it and surprisingly know a lot of Pokemon per se, for some reason gen 2, 3 and 6 more than others, and they do buy a lot merch but almost no kid has a console or has ever bought/played the actual games. Some don't even know there are games at all and think PoGo is "the" game where all these creatures came from.
I know this is anecdotal, but it's something that I see often not only with Pokemon, which is why it catches my attention.
