The controversy opened a lot of eyes to the quality of Pokémon, and if the next games don't do anything to address the controversy, a lot of those fans will realize that Pokémon has no intention of improving. It also entices people buy their DLC expansions since it gives the impression of more content even if you can technically get them through trading. Why would I get home if every game has a strict roster of pokemon? if every game could have every pokemon, home is actually a great service. I can even import any pokemon from older games into any new game.

I also know not having to piss about with 900 models on top of any new models AND the other associated assets shit from building a new game is more attractive to devs than keeping the National Dex in. There's a reason digimon only have about 400-600 creatures a game and rarely all the existing onnes in one - it's entirely too strenuous for the return. This shit will only get worse as they add new ones (why do you think Regionals came back - less work to do than having to create a completely new pokémon and doesn't bump the count up) which means it's even less likely to return again in the future.

There was an argument for cutting Pokémon back in 2010. Remember back then.
>Red and Green come out in 1996

With every new game, the amount of work increased drastically with the increased Pokémon. I remember thinking they would have to stop including everything at some point. X and Y introducing 3D models was a big change too, but they were supposed to be future proof. And it's true that older models maybe get the occasional texture update and the odd modification from time to time, but it's not on the same scale as creating an entirely new sprite. But the expectation was that they could redirect all the effort the sprite artists were doing into other channels since models wouldn't get remade ad infinitum. Instead they're doing less than ever.

Nintendo knew that them delaying BotW, Prime 4, and AC created a practically impenetrable Shield for their PR in regards to quality control. Not to mention it will sell a shit ton of switches regardless. They reap all the positives of Pokémon being rushed while Gamefreak takes all the negatives. It’s actually pretty genius on their part.

To be fair, the XY models WEREN’T futureproofed. Their wire frames were, but their textures just weren’t good enough for HD. Don’t think the 3DS could handle both hi-poly models AND HD textures so they had to prioritize the harder part to recreate

The post Masuda made responding to the guy bothering him on Twitter over cut mons was too kind to be anything like Rian Johnson. Though I’d speculate that since the official position seems to have gone from “No DLC, Rotating Cast” to “DLC to add cut Pokemon including all the Legendaries” that all the complaining is having an affect behind the scenes. I wouldn’t be surprised if a third expansion is announced including everyone else so that they have all the models to reuse for the next gen games whenever those are coming if for nothing else, people don’t bother Masuda on his birthday over cut Pokemon.

They flat-out apologised after killing collections in the jump to Gen III, even though it wasn't wholly their fault. The difference here is while killing the collections wouldn't have an effect on making Gen VI, reversing the decision to cut the dex WILL have repercussions when it comes to make Gen X or beyond, when all of a sudden they've about a thousand pokémon and 1400-odd models to work out how to implement into the new game engine in 3 years, because the franchise runs on its own schedule and as long as marketing to kids is so profitable, it'll continue to run as-is, meaning they only have 3 years to get the next game ready, from any release point.

Everybody with half a brain knows this was never a matter of "they cant include everyone in this precise game', but rather, a matter of "they wanna make people get used to limited dexes as soon as possible, because these things are a major drain on dev-time'.

Imagine if, say, Gen 9 goes for a flat-shaded cel-shaded art style, and they gotta rework textures to fit that style, would you want to be the company that has to do that to only 400 monsters or the company that has to do that for 1000+ monster models?

Eh, over a thousand might be doable if they take their time implementing them all through DLC in SwSh. The next game could move horizontally in graphics quality like DPPt and HGSS. Maybe I’m being too much of an arm chair dev, but if they milk SwSh enough, they could buy time to put into the new game. Drip feeding content and reusing assets have helped Bungie a ton with Destiny (though the practice technically started with Halo).

That's the thing that confuses me though. I don't have actual experience in creating models, but I have extracted models and textures from both 3DS and Switch games. Years ago, I extracted some from the overworld of SMT IV. They were small textures, but they had a lot of detail and it didn't make sense to me that someone could put so much detail into a tiny image. Yeah, it's less stuff to draw, but it's harder to accurately map small complex textures. I thought that it would make more sense to make a larger, higher resolution texture first that then gets downscaled and used for lower resolution devices. I even remember someone telling me that was the general process. So why wouldn't they have just started with higher resolution textures and just downscaled them for Pokémon? Look at Pikachu's eye in its XY texture and tell me someone created that asset at that size instead of starting off with a higher resolution texture and shrinking it for a lower file size and easier processing. Why wouldn't they have high resolution textures for every single model they made for XY in preparation for future games on stronger hardware with higher resolutions? I get that many textures would be touched up or altered across releases as certain designs become more refined or streamlined, but it still leaves you with high resolution textures as a basis to alter instead of recreating all of them. Realistically, they are not struggling with 1000+ new models every single Generation. They have probably less than 200 unique new character/monster models. They should already have assets that make them future proof and even if they don't right now, at some point they will. But their statement that every game from now on won't have every Pokémon internally doesn't make any sense because there will be a point when all the assets are ready.

Learn something about computer graphics before writing such shit... Textures have resolution. You can have HD source version for texture and simply saving downscaled version. It's so simple that even Game Freak gets it.
What these nip dumbfucks didn’t realised is that they can also produce 'lower resolution' of wireframes from HD resulting in optimised games for such small hardware as 3DS
