I thought it was going to add a few new Pokemon at least. It just changed up some minor details that don't really matter but are kinda cool, like Venusaur using Energy Ball to fight his clone, and then his clone retaliating with Leaf Storm.

The remake was literally just because the director of M01-20 wanted to revisit his first movie as his parting shot before handing the directorship to the director of M21, who is now director of M23 and probably all the future movies for years to come. That's it; there's no conspiracy.

Yajima already directed Movie 21 and then Yuyama came back. There is no indication that Yajima is going to direct -all- movie from now on; they could just rotate.
