OP here, I know it's out of the ordinary to enjoy SWSH on /vp/ no less, but I found it to be a fun game, as opposed to USUM which just felt like a slog to get through, with all the handholding and excessive amount of cutscenes.

Eh, it's a bit subjective, but I thought it was a slog in the other sense -- the story felt barebones and story events held little to no weight, Rose just kinda shows up at the end as the big bad and it's not a shocking reveal at all?

Also they completely wasted all of the rival characters, they were developed as much as the rivals in XY

I agree with you 100% on the lackluster storytelling, I hope the DLC expansions flesh the story out more. There were randomly brought up lore points which ended up not being mentioned further and had no significance in the story at all, so I thought it was a bit disappointing on that front.

Also, Team Yell is even worse than Team Flare. At least Team Flare had some sort of motive at the end of the day; Team Yell is just the quintessential filler evil team.

They're literally story elements that give the games more depth than "hurr durr win the badges" unlike team yell. They even present the pokemon lore for legendaries because of the evil teams' actions in every game prior to gen 7

The entire game focuses on the gym challenge, in a way that brings more attention to it as a sporting event than anything. The retarded stuff about the wolves and Eternatus is cringy, the game's true narrative problem is screentime that it wasted talking about that shit instead of focusing 100% on the gym challenge.
