That's because of it's Z move. It was in UU when it came out at first, especially when it was a special attacker more than a physical attacker due to a bad movepool. If I remember correctly, it's only fighting type that was physical was Sky Uppercut.

Clefable has been good for years now. Defensive Fairy type with Wish/Aromatherapy, instant recovery with Softboiled, 2 insane abilities in Unaware and Magic Guard, Stealth Rock, and a massive offensive movepool to scare away 4x weak mons like Ferro and Gliscor

The only ways to introduce something new to the metagame is either

Jolteon has always been more or less of a Low Ladder staple. Raikou has almost always been the better Pokémon.
Low Ladder is so obsessed with Eeveelutions that Jolteon managed to stay RU the entirety of Gen 7 despite being in D/Blacklisted Rank.

Also, Magic Guard+Reliable recovery+Tons of Coverage+Tons of utility option is pretty damn good in a metagame that has Diggersby/Chandelure as its strongest Physical/Special attackers

Arcanine's ranked too but relying on Morning Sun sucks a lot, if you just need a Clefable check Flareon's going to be more consistent. That being said Arcanine gets Intimidate and Wild Charge so it's not all bad if you need what it does vs not-Clefable too.

They avoid direct stat changes to maintain continuity of the world. The Pokemon world feels like a living, breathing world with real animals because, for the most part, a Pokemon from 25 years ago has the same exact stats now that it did then. That said, since 6th gen they have done minor buffs and nerfs when needed. Go look at Aegislash's attack and special attack in 8th gen.

Why isn’t Lucario ranked?
Having both Swords Dance and Nasty Plot, along with being able to deal with the top tiers in one way or another.
It also has a great speed tier now that so much of the speedcreep is gone.

Arcanine's base attack isn't high enough to OHKO Clefable under any circumstance, while Banded Flareon always OHKOs 252 HP/252+ Def Clefable in the Sun and Life Orb sets will KO with hazard chip. Both abilities are quite good for the MU, with Flash Fire boosting Flare Blitz's power if you predict a Flamethrower and Guts takes advantage of Toxic/Thunder Wave. Most Clefable sets do not invest much into speed so you can load up Flareon with max HP to maximize Wish healing and still wallop every Clefable set comfortably. Will-o-Wisp can cripple switches and Yawn can force them and gives you a free turn to Wish to use for yourself or for a teammate after you die/switch out. It's still a gimmick though as it can be easily baited and every turn is a coinflip.

I don't think much of the stuff that is actually OU by usage will drop off after DLC is done, maybe Hatterene because it is really similar to Tapu Lele, Mimikyu because it already isn't good and propped up by lower ladder (and may drop off before June in the first place), and Galarian Corsola which I don't think anyone here is going to miss.

People worried about Tapus should hope Steelsurge becomes an actual move so that at least Lele, which is on paper the strongest one, can become easier to play around. I have noticed that the marketing for the Isle of Armor seems to imply "all new moves" and that G-Max Steelsurge is currently the only Max move that has a completely unique effect so that isn't too outside the realm of possibilities.

Because it has shit coverage with Grass and it isn't very strong on its own despite being STAB. Band would rather run double Grass, you are going to click Horn Leech much more often than Play Rough, while other sets simply don't have the space for it since Superpower and Stone Edge are not negotiable on offensive SD, while more defensive sets need moves like Nature's Madness, Leech Seed, Protect, Substitute and Synthesis and therefore also can't fit in.

The use case for Play Rough is if you are running Band Bulu and you have literally nothing else in your team that can deal with Kommo-o, that's it.

As always, the real problem is Toxapex. This is called 'Regen Stall'. If you have Pex plus a mon that walls the opponent's active Pokemon, you can switch aimlessly between them and not even waste PP. Toxapex is the only currently available Pokemon that enables and rewards players for this technique. It needs to go.

The only difference is the names of the Pokemon. Instead of Landorus-T being on every team, you have Corviknight. Only now, the meta is even more centralized around those top Pokemon than in Gen 7, with objectively less room for variety or diversity.

Darmanitan meta had the same shit but with more Protect and more do-nothing dedicated Darm counters, and Dynamax meta had the same shit but with more Ditto and braindead AIDS hyper offense that was just as bad. Literally zero bad bans this gen, if anything they should suspect Dracovish, Dugtrio, and Toxapex if fat balance keeps ruling the meta since it would make building without bird+water+fairy fat cores way easier.

Depends on the format and what kind of team you bring. Last gen offense was way more viable if you wanted to avoid this kind of matchup, this gen running sameish bulky cores is the most consistent way to build so most of the tourney matches this week ended up being fat balance mirrors which can take a while

Not until Toxapex was introduced, no. Aimless switching is punished in 6v6 because the switch-in takes hazard damage, attack damage and risks being set up upon. Toxapex can frustrate all of these, and the user is rewarded with HP for switching. Before Pex you would almost never see a battle last beyond 100 turns, and certainly not repeat itself this much. Now it happens regularly, especially in Pex vs Pex matchups.

Last gen UU was way fatter than OU and RU was slightly fatter than OU.
I didn't play enough of the others to say though.
UU this gen is way more offensive than OU but that likely won't last because it's the brainless webs setup HO type of offense that plagues metas with weak defensive options.

Long games are better in old gens, RBY and GSC can take a while but it still feels like something’s happening gradually. With new gens it seems like people flub their offense and then end up in pex+ditto+boots stalemates where nothing of value occurs.

You cannot do this in doubles. You can slow doubles way the fuck down with Pokemon like screens Grimsnarl, intimidate users, protect spam, ally switch, fakeout, etc but you cannot just stall an enemy out indefinitely.

You won't actually win doing that you'll just delay your loss. You only get 5 minutes of move time so timer stalling will make you lose, dynamax means you can't defense cuck too much and 2 Pokemon attacking at a time makes it easy to gang up on one and take it out.

Although if the stallfag is dedicated enough they'll make the game hit the 1000 turn limit and force a tie.
