The franchise started dying in Gen 3 and finally died in Gen 5. I don't see how Go is responsible.

Go has contributed to some innovation in the main games that should be lauded. Raids, overworld Pokémon, and seasonal events that we’ve seen in SWSH all started with Go and are all things I like. The problem with Go is that it sustains Pokémon fandom for many older players and casual “cool kid” influencers and whatnot but it fails at providing the deep lore and gameplay dive that the main games create so the developers are pandering to people who won’t give the history of the series the attention it deserves. Go has nowhere near enough features and story to make it “kino.” But I still think it’s good that GF takes some inspiration from it. I wish the Pokestop looking thing in Circhester would have done something more interactive than just sitting there as an Easter egg but that lack of detail is the problem.

GO only sped up the decline. There were clear issues in the series by 2016, and I doubt Sun and Moon were significantly altered by its success since they would have been finished like 2 months after GO released.

No. GO came after Pokémon was well into its downfall. XY was the real beginning. I harbored hope after it but each subsequent entry was so fucking barren. The real mistake wasn't 3D per se, but how GF wants to compete with mobile gaming and to make things simpler and simpler. Hell, I may like Unova and even then I feel gen 5 was the start of the downfall, whereas gen 6 consolidated the new development philosophy.

The only thing this argument could apply to are the Switch games, but Sword and Shield's faults are incredibly similar to Gen 7s, so it's not like Masuda and Ohmori's 3D design philosophies were spawned by Go.
The franchise as a whole? Maybe. But the games have been rolling downhill for a while now.
