Gym leaders only use three pokemon with no rematches and some of their strategies are honestly pretty bad.
Elite four only initially use four pokemon and some have weak moves like karate chop.

N is an attention hog and some people don't like that. I wasn't personally a fan of the journey culminating with the credits being a ten minute shot of N majestically flying off into the sunset while the player isn't show once.
There are no admin fights at all despite the other six of the Seven Sages doing bs with plasma grunts all over the place. Sure there's N, but he barely shows up to fight and just uses his gimmick wild pokemon with two levels above the route. It was really anticlimactic especially with the scene with the gym leaders showing up to stop them in the end and the postgame being a tm hunt involving them.
I liked the postgame routes, but I feel like there wasn't actually anything to do on most of them if that makes sense.
