isnt most of the problem with pokebank just the sheer volume of people that access it, not the actual pokemon data transfered?
not defending gf since i do think theyre fucking incompetent and know they could make this a lot easier for everyone without going bankrupt but
pokebank literally shut down nintendos servers as a whole when it launched due to how many people were trying to use it, and they had to move it to its own servers seperate from wherever nintendo was hosting it. or at least thats what i heard. i remember all of nintendos servers going down on pokebanks launch but I don't know the source of this claim
that should still be enough to tell you that their problem isnt the data, but the servers being accessed at all.

The problem is it doesn't require being routed through a cloud service to transfer from game to game to begin with. This isn't the early 2000s with shitty handheld wireless, it could easily be done between two devices.

It is really baffling that Bank was ever online in the first place, especially for Gen 6. Let’s do some math:
A Pokemon in storage is 232 bytes of data. There are thirty Pokemon in a box, so one box’s worth of Pokemon is 232*30, or 6960 bytes. Bank gives you 101 boxes to deal with if we’re counting the transfer box; 101*6960 = 622,160. Which ALMOST sounds like a lot of data, until you realize that’s measured in... bytes. The sum total of all the storage you fill by depositing all 3,030 possible Pokemon is barely over 622 kilobytes. KILOBYTES. For WHAT fucking purpose could they not just allow users to store that data locally? The only thing they accomplish with this solution is de-future-proofing the series. You’ll be able to transfer from the GameCube up to Gen 5 until the end of time as long as you keep your cords and shit intact, but that permanent ecosystem is severed as of Gen 6, and for WHAT REASON?

That stuff was called garbage bits because they had some odd bits that seemed to do very little, although one was used for Johto Balls, so you could trade between games. A pokemon in a Johto ball would show up in a Pokeball in DPt, but even so would show up in HGSSBW2 with Johto balls when traded to those games.
