You can do stuff in Sword/Shield now that will actually matter when the new content arrives. All those items you grind for? The surplus of BP and Bottle Caps? You can use them immediately when you get to the move tutors or train new things from the DLC.
Instead of third versions where you either can't transfer any item progress, or doing so is painfully slow to the point it's not worth it.
