It seemed like they tried to change it up and use the last area in the canyon as the victory road area and then didn't know what the fuck to do with the lead up to the league and hoped we'd understand what they were trying to do.

Then needed to put Necrozma somewhere so they just fleshed out Victory Road because the only other places needed more work they weren't willing to put in.

They specifically added an area in USUM for a story segment. Which admittedly, was one of the coolest additions. Getting half way through Victory Road, an hour or two after beating Necrozma and expecting to just go to the Elite 4, only to enter a new area, walk up a hill and see Necrozma lying defeated in the centre of a crater was fucking cool.

Route 1, 5, 6, 8, and Glimwood Tangle are the only good maps in the entire game. Letting Route1 off for being a simple straight line cause it's a basic Route 1 who cares, but not the rest
