>>42420743>>42420853>>42420882>There is no exact answer, but we can estimate. Based on how his Rare card mentions Marnie having the spirit of battle as early as when Piers first became Gym Leader, that means that he can’t be that much older than Marnie. Said card clearly shows him younger (look at the lesser amount of hair and his less tired eyes), though he looks somewhat older than the protagonist and their rivals. That would likely mean he took the mantle of Gym Leader while in his teens. Now this is where it gets interesting. Marnie’s League Cards give us two pieces of information relating to her age. Her Normal card mentions how he was “timid and a bit of a crybaby” earlier as a child. She broke these habits after playing and training with her Morpeko. Marnie’s Rare card reveals that Piers actually caught her Morpeko for her when she was at the age of five. Assuming that Marnie is the protagonist’s age and that the protagonist is the typical 10-11, this means that Piers likely took the mantle of Gym Leader in the five year span from when Marnie was 5-6 to when she was 10-11.
With this sorted out, it hints at Piers actually being fairly young. Unfortunately, to get his exact age we can only rely on estimates. Comparing his appearance on his Rare card to Hop’s own appearance on his Normal card, he stands a few inches higher. While Piers isn’t exactly a short man, it wouldn’t be crazy to assume that when the picture on his card was taken he was several years older than the protagonist’s current age. This would put him as being around 13-15 at the time, or maybe 16-17 being generous. That means that if we take it Piers 1. is an adult at this point and 2. recognized Marnie’s battling potential when she was around 6-7, that means that he would fall right into the age range of being 18-20 (or possibly up to 22 with the generous teen age range). Basically, he’s not a child, but he isn’t that old either.
