It really is just Gen1 that is supposed to be a post-apocalyptic paradise, with all it s war theories and need for cataloguing the creatures.
Gen2 introduced actual legends and referred to events that happened a few centuries back as if those were the middle ages (i think so). But Lt.Surge and Pewter museum's existence imply that Gen1 takes place in..like....um +50years in the future(?), not a thousand or so.
Rom hack idea: Pokemon Cyan & Magenta : where a region, let's say Galar, it is explicitly a post-apocalyptic version of a region in the UK, and follows Gen1's world-building direction.
Or perhaps: Pokemon Spaceworld
where the whole Earth is a region to explore (about 3x Gen3-regions in size) and it follows the Gen1 post -apocalyptic setting, investigating where pokemon came from, how they interact, how each real region was changed.
Scrap that, make an original game out of this! Like what Kindred Fates is trying to do.
