I don't mind the traditional league formula, but the tradition of having the same fucking villain team with the same plan for 8 gens running needs to die.
It fucks the pacing so badly when you just wanna fight Gyms and hit the League but this retarded filler plot sidetracks you to fight 700 generic grunts + generic leader + generic legendary.

no, gym badge and becoming the Champion should stay, what should be changed is how much it's flushed out. we don't get to explore the region much anymore, we don't get to do the Gyms in any order we want, and being the Champion is literally pointless because nothing special happens afterwards only SM/USUM changed this by adding in a few battles where you "defend" the Champion title

I always thought it would be cool to have some roles that you would class into, like rangers, breeders, league challengers, researchers, etc. although I know this would be asking too much from GF. I'd make it so you could become all of these if you wanted but your initial choices would be much more smooth and rewarding so you'd have an incentive to actually choose a role and stick to it.

I just want to play gym tycoon. Build your gym, hire your trainer, train your team, manage a side activity to gain money, go from a first badge gym to the 8th badge gym.

I like the gym setup, but they need to have more than 8. Have one for every type and then we're talking. And make sure there's an actual decent amount of other content like dungeons and side quests to break things up along the way. SwSh is so fucking barebones it's ridiculous.

we're talking about overall game design. if you stop thinking in the box that the series has been stuck in since its inception you'd realize that the trials were not a fundamental change but just a worse version of gyms.
