Since BW2 takes place around the same time as XY, which is two years after BW, then logically you can come to the conclusion that BW takes place two years after the Johto/Sinnoh stories, making 4 years between those and BW2/XY, which would make Red and Blue 18 years old, which is the prime age for when most kids go to college.
And then finally, 2 years pass between XY and SM, and in Alola, Red and Blue are on vacation, with Red wearing a 96 shirt. 96 standing for 1996, which is when Red and Green first came out, and in real life, that is 20 years.
So we can conclude that Red and Blue are both 20 years old in SMUSUM, 21 at the most, which also makes sense because most kids graduate after spending 4 years in college and then proceed to go on vacation, which the duo do.
There are no past characters or any significant references to past events in SWSH so there is no way to tell what the gap is between those games’ story and SMUSUM’s.
