Because Ghetsis was trying to do it to take over the Unova region by being the only person with Pokemon. Some Team Plasma members did have good intentions but many were also in it for the power grab.

Pokemon always got shit for being like dog fighting so TPC did everything they could to make pokemon being owned into a thing both parties wanted. This later affected how team plasma would be seen because it's pretty fucking stupid to have people play a game for over a decade and telling them that they're ok for doing that then making a team of people who say "no ur da bad guy"

The main theme of gen 5 is that when people is capable of meeting eye to eye, share their ideas and experiences, a new vision is born and people grow better and more balanced.

Team plasma are the villains because , even the well intentioned ones are self righteous bigots that refuse to listen to any view point different to their own and because of this they are uncapable of seeing that their action could potentially cause harm.

I always understood it like this- Pokémon are a few steps above animals in general intelligence and even something like a caterpie can boast dog-like intellect. That’s why they intentionally jump out at you in the tall grass, for many Pokémon a cushy life in the human world beats the nightmare of eat or be eaten.

Because it's okay to enslave pokemon because they're not humans. It doesn't matter if a pokemon is smart, or if it suffers in captivity, they're not humans. Team Plasma are a bunch of petty thugs who think they're being moral when they're just being nuisance. There should be no moral rights for any non-human, pokemon included. Just like if one decides to spray paint over one's car's windshield and crash it into a ditch and destroy it (even though that would be a bad idea) so too should one be allowed to do whatever he likes with his pokemon, including things that would cause it to suffer or die. Because it's your right to misuse your own property (as long as it doesn't harm another human). And that's what pokemon are: property. Which is beside the point because most pokemon enjoy having a master and battling anyway.

So, Team Plasma is wrong on every level, most pokemon are not suffering, and even if they were, there is no moral obligation to prevent or cease a non-human's suffering.

You know what I dislike about Team Plasma? Why does their outfit look more like it's made of cloth, rather than maille, metal, and leather? Like, that should be a mail coif, metal pauldrons, and leather or metal boots and gloves. Instead their outfit looks like some kid's pajamas.

But Ghetsis didn't care about the message of the game. Ghetsis was a power hungry tyrant. The entire point of him being pure evil was to show you what happens when you corrupt truth and ideal.

But weater find out the grunts are divided into two camps and that some genuinely weren't evil, the game explicitly went out of its way to establish this

Wild pokemon actually are jealous of Domesticated pokemon it's part of why they attack in the first place.

Also in DPP thee friendship checker mentions wild pokemon et jealous of domesticated pokemon due all the new experience they are able to have with a trainer.

It's actually really traumatic for most pokemon to be ripped away from their trainers who become their foster parent in a way as well as the pokemons friend. Being ripped away from warmth and constant food which pokemon are shown to prefer. Some pokemon who live in the water are able to exist on land thanks to pokeballs and would have a completely new part of their world stolen from them by being put back in water.

Pokemon and people are shown as partners with pokemon being even more domesticated then some dog breeds.

What they were doing was cruel at best for both the people and pokemon involved.
