Because they pull this shit literally every gen with an entire smorgasbord of interesting mechanics or features. Why are you surprised? Game Freak isn't interested in actually taking the formula and improving it, only reusing it over and over again with just enough of a new coat of paint each time to keep retards taking the bait.
