What are some good ways to fill the void of no decent Pokemon games until at least 2021?

Disc creatures, though it's more like DQM than Pokemon/digimon.
Then there are a few in development but not playable yet, one was "crown" something.

Already played P5 vanilla last year. I completed it on Merciless in about 140 hours. Wasn't really the biggest fan of the narrative, character development, or anime cliches, to be honest. The gameplay was "OK", but nothing great. Royal looks like a minor update.

I will always suggest Monster Hunter Stories, Spectrobes, and Fossil Fighters. There was also this monster catcher that had pretty decent monster designs, even if they looked like plush toys. Moka Moka I think? Or something like that.

There's also EvoCreo, and I recall KH Dream Drop Distance revolves around catching and raising Dream Eaters.

Though it's super tiny and I wish there were game based on it, Megaman Battle Network 3 lets you raise Viruses.

Technically, you could make the same argument for pic related. Sakura was meant to appeal solely to little girls in Japan, yet she is a massively popular waifu amongst lolicons the world over. In fact, the mahou shoujo genre in general was meant to appeal primarily to girls during its conception, but nowadays it caters mostly to males.
