I never understood that logic, why does Ash winning mean the show is over? As though he wouldn't just move on to the next region to challenge another league. He's not gonna suddenly stop liking Pokemon and retire because he won once. No other kids show has the main character win once then replace the entire cast because of it, it doesn't make any sense.

Should have won Sinnoh then just reboot with a new MC in Unova tbqh. They practically rebooted the show anyway by setting Ash back to square one and turning Team Rocket into different characters. They were just scared of comitting so they just put the new characters in an Ash costume so people would accept them.

Does anybody actually LIKE Ash though? Him and Pikachu are perfectly passable as the main characters of the franchise but I can't imagine people being devastated if they got rid of him. Changing Pikachu would be far more tricky than changing Ash imo.

Tbh the reason i think Ash didn't win in DP was due to two factors:
- Not enough planning for his victory over the series, focusing instead all over his rivalry vs Paul. It's clear the League's climax happened in their quarter finals match, and after that there wasn't much else to present.
- Might have been due to time strains. Reminder Ash vs Tobias battle was the second to last episode of DP, in the eve of BW's debut.

Both are yes. DP has a total of 191 episodes + two Japan-only specials, although technically AG has more at 192, but that's Hoenn journey + Battle Frontier.
DP did maintain a lot of filler in-between gyms and contests overall, plus the infamous gap of 52 episodes between gyms 7 and 8.

I think they had it that way because if you defeat the league and become champion, don't you have to stay there and defend your title? I think the reason they did it for Alola was it was rudimentary since the league was still a WIP. There was no established tradition there that Ash would have to defy.

He sorta strategized with heracross and sceptile. Heracross because of the sleep talk + megahorn combo, and then sceptile cause it had experience breaking out of a deep trance against brandon's regirock. But yeah outside of that there wasn't much strategy. Dude brought gible swellow, and torkoal to a match with a MYTHICAL pokemon (though yes, gible did put in some work).

If it was game-accurate Heracross would down Darkrai very easily, giving potential to the illusion of a fair match.

Torkoal's beaten a much stronger legendary. Sub legends aren't any stronger than regular pokemon in the anime. It's only at 600bst and higher where they're depicted as Unstoppable gods.
