I doubt they would. And people said the same thing about Megas back in Gen VII, too.

Ideally, all the gimmicks will return in future gens, and probably added in via passes, with their own quests and stories.

If mega evolution is brought back, and if it works like the Smogon version of mega evolution, maybe it'll have a bit of lore explaining why it can't coexist with dynamax.

Maybe something along the lines of...

They should have unified things. Have the genetic type (what's in game) and then have a mon holding their mega stone, when Dynamaxes, "gigantamaxes" instead.
Could then also have had things like Gmax Charizard-X where it is Mega Charizard-X but can hold any item.
Then later have a Gmax-gene item that gives whatever mon you want the Gmax factor.

They also could have buffed mons with their Gmax forms like Megas, instead of just a usually not as good Gmax move.

Link’s gear is part of the RPG grind. You’re not supposed to get attached to gear in RPGs because that defeats the purpose of the genre.

Animal Crossing would get stale without characters and the game is partly based around meeting new people

Banjo is a guest character. He’s special in the same way Jason Vorhees was special in Mortal Kombat. They’re not supposed to be your mains, but a fun gimmick

I think that's retarded and the devs probably would think the same. At most they will implement a hold item for you to DMax / GMax. So it does not crash with megas and z-moves.

I think the only gimmick that isn't going to come back are the Z-Moves and the dynamax.
Maga and G-Max are designs, they won't get rid of that, because designs can not only get popular, but also iconic.
I can see them introducing a device that can trigger both forms aither during the main story or in the post game.
I can also see stuff like Ash's Greninja getting retconned as a mega without stone (like Fug) for the same reasons.

Doesn't mean you can't stop liking them.
Machamp and Gengar are amazing Trade Evolutions doesn't mean you stop caring about them because Trade evolutions are literally a gone concept.
At this point you might as well never like a pokemon game because it's always out with the old minus Kanto and in with the new for Kanto.

Gen 1 literally are just pure upgrades. Staying true to the definition of evolution.
