I'm just not that much of a fan of Gen I designs, partly because Gen II and IV gave Evolutions to old designs which when I think of whether I like a Pokemon or not I'm thinking of the entire evolutionary line and from the stand point of the final evolution (unless it's a split-evo line) so Gen I designs I do like such as Magneton are counted towards Gen IV since I also like Magnezone.

Gen 3 strikes a fantastic balance between colorful and fantastical and avoiding the shitty toylike anatomy and no details of later gens. And yeah, it has some incredible designs.

Gen 3 is alright I don't dislike it by any means but to me a lot of designs can't really strike a balance between cool ambiguous monsters, to "what the fuck am I looking at" and "literally my mom's x". A neat little quirk it has is just how much Pokémon seem to change with evolutions, I guess they were trying to backpedal on the fact many Gen 1 and 2 mons were "just gets bigger".
