>>42449762I don’t believe Pokémon needs to “get better” since GameFreak has been in charge of development for 20 years and have basically perfected the formula for a Pokémon game. Everyone here making the games seem worse for internet points will not admit it but if you’re an adult you can recognize strengths AND weaknesses, and one of GameFreak’s strengths is, duh, making Pokémon games.
However, if there were some theoretical competition from a similar genre entry, I would hope this encourages GameFreak to take risks. Apparently they can make what fans will call “the worse game ever” taking few risks, so I doubt any choices they can make to try and be more innovative will hurt them. Temtem and Digimon are never going to have the same magic Pokémon design and lore has but I would be a bit worried that if something were to sink GameFreak, Pokémon would just become empty, awful mobile games from other developers profiting off the brand.
