It does aesthetically.

Charizard is clearly mainly a fire type, but he can fly
Duraludon looks clearly like a steel monster first and the dragon part is inconsequential. Same with Aegislash being a steel sword, but also a ghost

Basically the dragons he uses are only tangibly dragon related.

Monotype are fine when done correctly, as in they all don't die to the same shit. Like a ground gym but it has a Seismitoad with water absorb or a flying gym but they have also have a Gliscor and Skarmory. Most gyms you can just beat by spamming the same move though.

At least his team was themed. No one looks fondly toward Diamond and Pearl gym leaders and elite four. Remember when Flint literally only had 2 fire types because that's all the region had to offer? At that point I don't even know why they bothered making a fire type trainer.
