Unlike past regions where Ash was always traveling around, in Alola he spent the whole series in Kukui's home, living with his pokémon who spent all day outside of their pokéball. They had a home they were used to, unlike Ash's other pokémon from past regions

Kukui is also a professor and he can easily transfer them back to Ash. Saves Oak some money on Pokemon food and space.

They stayed in one place the entire season and all of them were born/grew up within short radius of kukuis house. Why take them away to a bland grass field when they can stay in the place they've always lived? Kukui can always just transfer them if need be.
