The design is just so happy and full of character it puts a smile on my face, like Poliwhirl or Pancham. None of these make it into my favourites list but they're just so happy that I can't help but feel a little better when I see them.

I don't know enough about competitive to say, but I would guess that the biggest thing holding Lilligant back from even really having a niche is her relatively low speed (90 just won't cut it these days). A single Quiver Dance turns her into a wrecking ball on stats, but: A. She has to get that turn without getting one-shotted, and B. Even with the extra power and speed, she has only one decent moveset anyway, so it's easy to prep for that or just switch.

Whimsicott was based on some asian story called the vegetable lamb or something, the thing you're thinking of was a coincidence. I don't think gf did much research on america when making a region supposedly based on america.

Always disliked how limited her movepool was, but Own Tempo is an excellent Ability and Quiver Dance is a godly buff. I always give her Hidden Power Rock to cover nearly all of her weaknesses. Still pissed off that Gamefreak cut her from Gen 8 while her worthless counterpart Whimsicott got in.
