I think they mean buildings that are more than just visual. There are only three buildings with doors, the other buildings could be rocks, walls, or trees and it wouldn't make a difference, because all they are are places you can't go.

SwSh's major problem is that it's entirely linear and pushes you from gym to gym with the only respite being the wild area that is limited until you have all of the badges anyway. If they remade it in 2D it would need a lot of work making routes and towns interesting

Fuck that’s bad. It’s remain this way until they can finally ditch the fixed camera though. Linear routes are a necessity for ease of playing if you have zero control of the camera. Hopefully by next gen they can remedy both complaints in one fell swoop

I like 3D regions, I loved Alola and I defend it’s a great regiob, and Kalos was ok for me but Galar... Wtf did just happened?? What is this. No branches, just literally 2 places to backtrack, with just 1 being a “big place” near Magnolia’s house... Galar is terrible.

Route 2, 4, 6, 8, 9 & Glimwood Tangle are the best things here however, Route 2, 4 and 9 are good for small Routes, given that they're among the largest in this region that's kind of pathetic. Route 6 and 8 are the only Routes that look a decent size and Glimwood Tangle is comparable in size to Viridian Forest despite being basically the last dungeon in the game.

Alola's routes are mostly pretty small and linear, with a very clear critical route and one if any diversions. You can actually see the end of one route from the other for half of them.

Aah, I see. I haven't gotten very far in Alola yet, myself.

I wouldn't mind Galar's short routes if there was more of them, or at least more places to visit on them. Route 3 stands out to me as the biggest offender, showing off a location in the distance that you never get to visit.

Alola's routes aren't bad, honestly, they're just not complicated and you'll see some of the most complex ones early on. I think Galar's routes are mostly fine too, they actually get better as they go along (outside of Route 7 which only acts as a weird ass hub.)

They literally aren't, as even some of the SwSh routes display that by simply having small branching paths like route 9 or the two forests. Simply expanding upon that and adding branches to branches would be a way to add complexity without sacrificing anything, especially if the paths still meet up at the end.
