Having the wild encounters be based on Pokemon Go was a genius move and the perfect way to introduce players to its mechanics. Likewise, players who have never played a main series game before have dozens of trainer battles with which to become accustomed to the regular battle system. I have a friend who only plays Go and having to explain to her what a Gym Leader is kind of cool.
It is the perfect way to bring both sides of the playerbase together. Not to mention the games are beautiful, unironically better atmosphere than gen 8, especially with the battle backgrounds (which I know is a meme but it's a fair criticism).
No bait. I don't think they'll outright replace the main series games with Let's Go but there is no way we've seen the last of them.
