Here's how I see the tiers in Pokemon.

OU is like the major leagues - all legitimately great players who can rise and fall like *that* with a lot of frenzy over them. It's all about matchups, whose offense can get through whose defense, who has the tricky stuff while still pulling weight on the team. Lot of high blood pressure here.

UU is like the minor leagues. All the really big boys have left for the real pros, but all of these guys are still well-conditioned expert performers in their own right. Give them some years - sometimes a decade - and they might truly turn out to be big league. Just as much high blood pressure in the teams, less stress from the spectators.

Uber is kind of like the Olympics. Occasionally you get regular players up there, but usually, these are overpowered, overtrained monsters for whom the Olympics is the only real challenge. And just like with Olympians, some Pokemon like some countries, while being better than 90% of other performers, just can't compete against others, and again just like the Olympics, some Pokemon like some countries, are only really good at one thing.

RU is college/high school. Some are legitimtely solid performers that are just outclassed by the big boys - and these are the likely picks years on for promotion - while others are just tricky guys who can pull shit that wouldn't fly if pro. And, of course, you have the real suckers you want to root for but simply just aren't that good.

NU is solid peewee, shit in middle school. They're just barely able to perform and that's awesome, everybody there is ecstatic if they can do the work. Lots of fundamentals - reliability is more important than showboats.
