Are Honedge the first Pokéballs, or at least the inspiration behind them? Did someone realize that you could catch ghosts in swords by killing a targeted person with them, and that you could let the ghosts battle, but then decide that they wanted to catch more than just ghosts and without killing the captured creature or relegating them to a possessed sword? Seems like as logical a reason for people inventing/researching Pokéballs as anything else in the games.
