Remember Medals? When pokemon finally got its own cheevo system? That was good times. Gen 6 inexplicably took it out of the game and made it a global link thing exclusively. From there it went on to be dropped completely, permanently, and forever. Dang.
How about actual rewards for pokedex work? See all Unova mon and head on over to the Nature Preserve. Catch them all and get the Oval Charm. Complete the national dex and get the shiny charm. Later games kept the charm stuff which made the rewards feel less and less great over time since its always the same shit.
Can't leave out Critical Captures. Thats stuck around but both looks and sounds somehow less impressive than they originally were.
