Takeshi’s original idea for the movie was to base the plot around the discovery of an ancient Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton. This finding would be the first time anybody in the Pokémon universe had ever seen a real-world animal, and it would lead to global curiosity over what the creature was and why its species became extinct. Before long, the Tyrannosaurus Rex’s skeleton would come back to life and escape, and a team of Pokémon trainers and researchers would attempt to catch it and study it more thoroughly. Through this, they would learn more about animals and the things that brought about their extinction. Animals were a third kind of creature, separate from humans and Pokémon, that existed in the Pokémon world several hundred years before. Records and photographs existed of ancient animals, but no living person had ever seen one.
