The Wii and DS servers are shut down. Eventually, the 3DS and Wii U servers will shut down. There goes Bank. Then, eventually, the Switch servers shut down. There goes Home, and the Sword/Shield DLC, as well as all the online features.

The DLC is downloaded to your cartridge, which means that dataminers can extract it and post it online

Meanwhile, with this MMO, the server software is never released, period. The client that you *can* download only communicates with the server over the internet.
If that server software is turned off, the client is useless because we can't run it ourselves, *unlike* this DLC.

Whereas when the Switch's online dies, Nintendo will still go after people hosting Pokemon roms, downloads for the DLC, etc.

Do you want to re-phrase that? That's not even all games that have shut down, probably. I can guarantee you that a ton of them don't have private servers, we can figure out a percent if you want. Also, do you understand how much work it takes? Especially if the devs don't have an end of life plan (and most don't)? Especially obscure shit that nobody cares about. Games like Battleforge and Sonic Runners practically only have fan revival projects going because somebody made a popular Youtube video about them. Had you genuinely heard of either of those games before I mentioned them? At the least even if Sword and Shield are garbage I can still play them. And as long as somebody has a torrent up you can at least pirate the DLC. It's far less likely for somebody to do anything related to the Switch's online, but even then hackers have ways to use LAN or route wireless through the internet. When an MMO dies, that's it, you can't play it anymore.

When Temtem dies, if people care, it will be revived by fan projects, just like every other MMO that people care about. When the Switch service dies, you'll have to hack your switch and find a download that Nintendo will actively try to bring down every time it's hosted.

Look, if Digimon Heroes doesn't have a server, how's TemTem going to? Because Digimon has a far bigger fanbase than TemTem probably will, and I don't expect that to get any better. Also, you overestimate how much Nintendo cares about hacking and piracy, shit's out in the open constantly. Like, do you know how easy it is to pirate basically any video game on their consoles? Like I think the only reason Wii and later games are harder to get a hold of is because the file sizes are such a pain that people hosting them want money from link shortener ads. And the only thing they tried to shut down was FreeShop because it was literally stealing from their servers.

Have you considered the fact that emulating a server is hard? Granted, it's pretty easy if the devs plan for it and release something to help repair it. I recall Mojang did something when Scrolls shut down, I forget what though. If TemTem makes any effort to have an end of life plan, I'll actually respect them for that.

The game cards are literally read only. They don't even store save files this time and they NEVER stored DLC.

They're downloaded to the Switch's memory (or an SD card).

The central point is that, every thing that you need to play this game is downloaded to your system - which is *not* the case with MMOs.
