Strong theme, distinct personalities, dynamic shapes. The coolest thing is resolute Keldeo is designed to bear features of each.
I think people don’t like a lot of gen 5 Pokémon because they don’t see past the appearance of a rehash, of the legendary dog trio for instance.

Unova is my favorite dex and I loathe these things. In general apart from Genesect, Meloetta and Victini (and the dragons I guess) Unova's legendaries are horrible wastes of space. Imagine if we didn't get the genies or sword-deers, we'd have seven free slots since GF wanted to match the 151 pokemon Kanto had.

When I first saw the Regis I couldn’t believe they were actual pokemon

They did feel “legendary”, but not in the same vein as past ones. They were lifeless robotic things instead of stylized creatures
