I've never seen anyone talk about this thing outside of VGC discussions. Even Heatran, Latis, Toxapex, Tapus, UBs, Ferrothorn, Dracovish, and the genies have fans of their designs. How do you feel about it?

If they gave it fairy type in gen 6 more people would be talking about it. Makes no sense for the thing that dispels Darkrai's nightmares to not only be weak to it, but also the 12th boring psychic legendary at that point.

Darkrai should have be dark/ghost too.

How do you make a Fire/Water type and then make it a forgettable filler mythical and overshadowed by another Fairy waifumon? I'm convinced Gamefreak was going to add Magearna in to a potential "expanded" Kalos game along with the Zygarde moves and AZ Floette, but rushed SM for the anniversary instead.

My favorite of gen 4's legendaries. It's got a unique design that's both adorable and graceful, goes nicely in a heal ball. A bit weird that a pokemon clearly based on a crescent moon is found on full moon island but I get it's to contrast with darkrai and it was cool to see another roaming legendary with a definite home.

Lati@s are easily some of the worst legendary designs. They don't look regal, elegant, mystical, alien, or imposing in any way. They just look like a dog's chew toys.

Even the crazier, more overdesigned legends like Palkia and Eternatus still bring to mind the designs of artists like Giger. These playskool rejects shouldn't even be legendary in the first place.

It's a very weird design. Not quite in the way something like Sigilyph, Eternatus, Regigigas, or Kartana is, but still a very distinct Pokemon design. Yet despite that distinction...it's really fucking forgettable. I think my brain has compartmentally grouped it with Latias and I only ever remember it exists when I see someone use it or when someone mentions Darkrai's island.

Calyrex kind of gives off a similar vibe now that I think of it, though Cressellia is a much, much, much better design

Both of those are pretty obviously references to the night, tying into the general day/night theming of the games and their respective legendaries.

Gens 4 and 5 had so many Legendaries/Mythicals that several of them never appeared in movies and were relegated to TV episodes instead - including the Lake Guardians, Cresselia, Phione and the Forces of Nature. But the Lake Guardians and Forces of Nature at least had their own mini-arcs while Cresselia and Phione each only had one single episode (and Cresselia had to share its only episode with Darkrai to boot).
